In the past 10 years, POET has grown its assortment of summer internships into a robust and comprehensive program attracting students across the country.

This year, the company hosted 47 bright-minded young people across its network of corporate offices and bioprocessing facilities — the largest class of students to date and an exciting milestone for growth.

“POET’s internship program has grown every year since its inception in 2002,” said Katie Wiseman, POET CARE senior talent acquisition partner. “We want our program to give real work experience and help students recognize their talents, learn new skill sets and prepare them to make career decisions in the coming years. In short, our interns do a lot more than just deliver coffee and make copies.”

POET also hosts professional development events for students throughout the summer. Most are centered on how bioproducts are made, networking skills, emotional and physical well-being in the workplace and how to develop a healthy work-life balance. These lessons provide valuable support for interns as they transition from academics to their professional careers, helping them to foster the attributes necessary to be a leader at work, at home and in their communities.

“I have enjoyed getting to be a part of the culture here at POET,” said Isaac Frandsen, an international logistics intern at POET Bioproducts. “I will treasure the experiences and lessons I have learned throughout my career.”

POET interns have a unique opportunity to receive hands-on experience with industry experts and leaders in their field.

“We want our interns to be confident and prepared to enter the working world,” Wiseman said. “Our program fosters future leaders and bold innovators. While we want each intern to come back as a full-time team member for POET, our end goal is that whatever field or career these students enter, they have everything they need to be successful and fulfilled.”

POET interns participate in engaging, real-world projects that utilize what they have learned in school and supplement their education with new opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge. The experiences often prove critical for making decisions that will impact the rest of their careers.

“This summer at POET has opened my eye to the supply chain world and has helped me make the decision to switch majors into this field,” said Noah Surprenant, an international logistics intern for POET Bioproducts.

Many POET interns return as full-time team members. The program has had great success in bringing on world-class talent and building dedicated teams around POET’s mission and culture.

“Interns are just one of the many ways POET invests in developing talent on our teams,” Wiseman said. “We want our new team members, even if they’re only with us for one summer as interns, to have the same drive and passion we do in leaving the world a better place than we found it.”

POET is dedicated to cultivating tomorrow’s leaders and field experts. The internship program seeks to foster an environment of learning and leading to give the next generation a head start on their career goals and aspirations. Opportunities to apply for POET internships can be found here.
