Orion Food acquired by Virginia-based Fortune 100 company

A Sioux Falls company has been acquired by one of its industry’s largest players.

Virginia-based Performance Food Group Co. acquired OLM Food Solutions earlier this month.

Performance Food Group reached No. 91 on the Fortune 500 list this year, a ranking of publicly traded companies by revenue. The company is one of the largest food and food service distribution companies in North America with more than 150 locations. PFG delivers food and related products to more than 300,000 locations, including independent and chain restaurants, businesses, schools, health care facilities, vending and office coffee service distributors, big-box retailers, theaters and convenience stores.

“We are excited to add OLM Food Solutions to the PFG family of companies,” PFG said in a statement. “By adding OLM’s expertise and portfolio of products, PFG will now be able to offer even more high-quality food solutions to customers in multiple market segments.”

Details of the transaction were not disclosed.

PFG’s roots go back to 1885 when it was founded in Virginia selling grocery items for a wholesaler. The company now has a $9.4 billion market cap and more than 30,000 associates working in more than 150 locations nationwide, including one of the nation’s largest truck fleets.

OLM Food Solutions has been in business under various names for more than 40 years, including Orion Land Mark and Orion Food Systems. Its distribution includes multiple pizza brands such as Hot Stuff Kitchen, pcpizza and Papa Primo’s, as well as convenience offering Day’N Night Bites and private-label food products.

The company’s headquarters was in Sioux Falls, with additional locations in Iowa and Tennessee. The company has multiple job postings in Sioux Falls. No immediate impacts to the local operation were disclosed.
