Officers, new member chosen for biotech board

South Dakota Biotech, the state affiliate of the international BIO organization, has elected its 2018 board of directors.

Officers include president Kevin Kephart, Indigo Ag Inc.; vice president Sue Lancaster, South Dakota Innovation Partners; treasurer Rollie Nevins, RTI LLC; and secretary Steve Lewis, Poet.

Penny Sattgast, owner of PCS Biotech Services LLC, joined the board, replacing Paul Batcheller of PrairieGold Venture Partners.

Additional board members include:

  • Christoph Bausch, SAB Biotherapeutics.
  • Dan Engebretson, USD.
  • Jan Puszynski, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
  • Daniel Scholl, SDSU.
  • Mel Ustad, The South Dakota Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research.
  • Jill Weimer, Sanford Research.

Eddie Sullivan, past board president and CEO of SAB Biotherapeutics, serves as an adviser to the board.

“We’re fortunate to have such broad expertise and big thinking on our board of directors,” said Joni Johnson, executive director of South Dakota Biotech. “It’s certainly reflective of the outstanding growth we continue to see in biotechnology in our state.”
