New food truck focuses on ‘everyday comfort food’

July 17, 2019

Empty-nesters with a dream of owning a bar and grill have started a food truck.

“It was just kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing. We saw a truck for sale on Facebook,” said Becky Kurtenbach, the “Ma” half of Ma and Pa’s Burger. “We’d always talked about doing a bar and grill, and we figured this is something we could do and travel and enjoy.”

She and her husband, Robert, bought the truck last fall and started serving food earlier this summer. Becky takes orders, and Robert does all the cooking.

“It’s everyday comfort food,” she said. Ma and Pa’s serves standard and deluxe hamburgers, hot dogs, chili dogs and fries.

With full-time jobs — Robert’s a construction supervisor, and she works as a bookkeeper for another construction firm – Ma and Pa’s Burger is available for night and weekend events. Kurtenbach updates the food truck’s Facebook page, so customers know where to find it. The food truck will be at Levitt at the Falls on July 26 and Nyberg’s Ace car show July 27 at the downtown store.

“In a few years, we hope to go full time and be on the truck all the time. … Someday, a bar and grill would be nice,” Kurtenbach said. “We’re starting small and working our way up.”
