New food truck features loaded baked potatoes

The newest food truck in Sioux Falls features loaded baked potatoes.
Travis and Traci Decker have started Street Taterz, which also sells bratwurst, chili dogs and chili by the bowl.

For Travis Decker, the new venture means a different career.
“I’ve done concrete work my whole life, and that was hard on my body. I’ve had a couple of surgeries,” he said. “I’ve always loved to cook and have people over for chili.”
That homemade chili features four types of beans — white, black, chili and kidney — ground beef, diced tomatoes and seasoning. It can be a topping for baked potatoes, all-beef hot dogs and brats or a separate serving.
Street Taterz’ loaded baked potatoes range from the classic with shredded cheese, fresh bacon bits, sour cream, butter, chives and onions to specialties like a breakfast version with country sausage and gravy.

Decker envisions doing a daily baked potato feature like Taco Tuesday with seasoned beef or chicken and other toppings or Philly Friday.
Customers can ask to have crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos on any menu item.

As the weather gets colder, the menu will include more soups, Decker said.
Initial outings have been pop-ups in parking lots at places like the Crow Bar and 49th Street Liquor. Last week, Street Taterz served teachers and staff at Edison Middle School.

Saturday, the trailer will be back at the Crow, starting at 8 a.m. for breakfast.
“I hope to sell out and make more to sell during lunch and after the Augustana football game,” Decker said.
Locations are posted on Facebook and Street Food Finder.

“We’ll be doing lunch and dinner, seeing what’s the best,” he said. “We might do a little big of both, and we’ll try to hit some events.”
Street Taterz can be booked for public and private events.
Decker hopes to find a heated location to store the trailer and bring it out throughout winter if the weather isn’t too harsh.
