An event venue like none in Sioux Falls is nearly ready to start hosting your special occasions.

Monick Yards, located at 605 E. Eighth St., is transforming the former pipe supply company building, Monick Pipe, into an exceptional modern venue that can accommodate a broad range of events.

With 12,000 sweeping square feet, the space can hold up to 400 for seated events or can subdivide.

“The nature of the building itself really led the design,” co-owner Anne Haber said. “It’s an industrial warehouse with beautiful old wood, so the design itself is very simple after that.”

The simplicity allows event hosts countless options for customization.

“The goal is to offer an array of different events without strong styles dictating their themes,” co-owner Amy Boes said.

“We added higher-end marble on the bar and custom wood finishes and played on arches in the design to bring an element of softness.”

Monick Yards is a partnership between the owners of Carpenter Bar, Highball and The Treasury and the owners of event venues Convolo and Casetta, who will manage the space.

“The location and the capacity of Monick Yards are very unique,” co-owner Angela Merritt said. “Typically, if you were looking to host that many people downtown, your only options would be a hotel banquet hall, so this really sets Monick Yards apart.”

The venue has been extensively planned for a seamless event flow. The two spaces, the Grand Hall and the Reception Hall, easily can host various elements of an event.

“It’s a really nice flow for a wedding because there’s no ‘room flip,’ so they can do a ceremony in the Grand Hall and move everyone from a cocktail hour to the Reception Hall,” Boes said. “It’s a nice change of scenery for guests, and you can utilize both areas at different points during an event.”

There’s also a patio offering comfortable seating and gathering spaces outdoors, with a door from the venue that creates an indoor-outdoor feel.

For corporate events, the options are endless, the owners said.

“Because of the layout of the space, with bars in both halls, you could have a showroom cocktail hour, maybe an art gallery in half the space and a dinner on the other side,” Merritt said. “There also are defined spaces for staging and a green room to host a keynote speaker, for instance.”

Monick Yards is equipped with state-of-the-art technology for corporate and nonprofit events, making it an ideal space for annual meetings or conferences.

When it comes to food and beverage, the options are best-in-class. Monick Yards has chosen preferred catering partners Chef Dominique’s, En Place Catering and Vespa Catering.

And, of course, the beverage team from the ownership group will ensure each event enjoys custom selections.

“Our cocktail culture does help bring an additional element that’s new and different to Monick,” Haber said. “Our team will help curate beer and wine plus develop custom cocktails that fit your event.”

Caterers “are loving the capacity of the kitchen,” Merritt added. “It will help food come out faster, plus the team of mixologists is outstanding. Even the amount of bathroom space is intentional, so really every detail of what makes a great event has been addressed here.”

All other vendor selection is the event host’s choice.

Monick Yards is making strong progress with construction and plans an Oct. 12 ribbon-cutting.

“A lot of people are holding dates until they can see the space, so there is potential for hard-hat tours, and we’ll be looking at that in the coming weeks,” Boes said. “We’ll also be doing some hosted events as we open, which will be a great way to see the building. But especially for in-demand dates, we encourage you to reach out soon.”
