New coffee shop brings local favorites to Hartford
By Erin Mairose
A new coffee shop in Hartford is offering South Dakota classics, including SDSU ice cream.
Stomping Grounds is the latest business in a three-story mixed-use building next to Central Valley Golf Course in this small town just a few miles northwest of Sioux Falls.
Owners Justin and Robin Eich said offering a cafe felt like the right fit along with the building’s apartments, a fitness center and Robin’s law office.
There’s a definite local flair to the menu, with coffee from Coffea Roasterie, Gaylen’s Homegrown Popcorn from Wentworth and wines from Volga and Rosholt.
The menu also includes a wide variety of panini sandwiches, bagels, breakfast items, appetizers, soups, salads and smoothies. Customers can grab something to go or sit down for a cup of coffee or wine.
“We always had this vision of what we might put in the building, (which included) a coffee shop,” Justin Eich said. “We just felt the area was in need with the northwest corridor continuing to grow and reaching out to Hartford.”
Plans for the menu began with a relationship with Coffea Roasterie in Sioux Falls – a favorite of the Eichs.
“We started to pick South Dakota products and come up with our own concept and decided to do the panini thing,” he said. “It’s been received really well.”
Providing customers with a taste of items from across the state soon also will include craft beers, bringing some of Sioux Falls’ specialties to Hartford.
Stomping Grounds is at 700 N. Vandemark Ave. Hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
