New city administrator named for Harrisburg
Nov. 20, 2024
The first-ever city manager of Watertown is becoming the new city administrator of Harrisburg.
Amanda Mack has led numerous large projects in Watertown since 2021, including the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena, Foundation Plaza and a new airport terminal. Before her role in Watertown, Amanda served in similar capacities in Spencer, Iowa, and Canton and Worthing, South Dakota.
“I’m most excited about the professional opportunity Harrisburg affords. The volume of growth happening is a challenge I’m looking forward to tackling alongside the staff, city council and community partners. Being able to help guide a community through this growth is a humbling honor,” she said in a statement.
“Personally, being closer to friends and family, and being in a thriving area of the state is a great bonus.”
Mack begins her new role Jan. 27.
“Amanda brings not only a wealth of experience but also a genuine passion for growing communities,” Mayor Derick Wenck said. “I’m excited for her to join our team as we continue to make Harrisburg a great place to live and work.”
Mack’s experience in managing growing communities and her passion for rural development “will be invaluable as Harrisburg continues to expand,” added Bryce Healy, Sioux Metro Growth Alliance economic development specialist for the Harrisburg Economic Development Corporation board.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how she works with our community to move us forward.”
Mack holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from South Dakota State University and an executive master’s in public administration from the University of South Dakota. She is a credentialed manager through the International City/County Management Association and has additional certifications in economic development, labor relations and leadership.
“Amanda’s leadership style is exactly what Harrisburg needs as it continues to grow,” Sioux Metro Growth Alliance president and CEO Tyler Tordsen said.
“Having previously served in the communities of Worthing and Canton, we’re excited to have her and her family back in the region. With her ability to bring people together and her deep understanding of community development, she will be an asset to Harrisburg and the entire Sioux Metro.”
