Myers’ second downtown deli expected to open next week

June 22, 2018

A second location for Myers’ Deli & More is set to open next week downtown.

The restaurant is filling the former Josiah’s Coffeehouse, Cafe & Bakery space in the CNA Surety Building on Reid Street just north of 10th Street.

“We’re shooting for Friday,” owner Dan Myers said. “It will be the exact same menu to start, and then we’ll change it over and switch it up as we see what they like.” Much of his equipment is in place, but the furniture is arriving next week.

Myers’ Deli opened in February in The Carpenter Building on Phillips Avenue. The breakfast menu features specialties such as a croque madame and a cheddar and chive egg bake, omelets and baked goods. The lunch menu focuses on sandwiches featuring Boar’s Head meats and cheeses. There also are wraps, hot dogs, brats, salads and a soup and salad bar.

The new location will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and for brunch Sunday. Myers envisions staying open later when there are events such as the Downtown Block Parties at the adjacent 8th & Railroad Center.

He’ll pull over some of the staff from The Carpenter location but is still looking to hire three or four employees.

The CNA site will feature coffee, espresso drinks and smoothies, and, unlike The Carpenter location, won’t serve alcohol.

“We’ll have a micro-sized version of our retail space,” Myers said. Shoppers can find products such as ice cream from Stensland Family Farms and Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery. It also will stock some grab-and-go food items.

The deli will have booth and table seating in the main space, and diners also can eat at tables on the front patio and in the building’s spacious lobby. Conference rooms in the multitenant building can be rented for catered meetings or events. Myers also owns Elite Catering, which generates 60 percent of his business.

His passion is creating food that people enjoy, and he wants customers to linger in the restaurants.

“I want it to be a home environment where you hang out.”
