Marsh McLennan Agency, or MMA, has received a Top Workplaces USA award, coming in at No. 13 on the list of large employers, those with 2,500-plus employees.

The Top Workplaces program has a 15-year history of surveying more than 20 million employees and recognizing the top organizations across 60 markets for regional Top Workplaces awards.

More than 42,000 organizations were invited to participate in the Top Workplaces USA survey. Winners are chosen based solely on staff feedback gathered through an employee engagement survey issued by Energage.

“MMA is in the business of taking care of other businesses risks. We cannot do this without the incredibly smart, dedicated and caring colleagues that we have on our team,” said Abbey Vanderwerf, vice president of employee health and benefits.

“MMA Dakotas strives to provide an environment where people can come to work and be their best selves, which means something different for everyone. We accomplish this through personal communication and development of each of our team members, allowing them to thrive in an organization where culture and people are pivotal to who we are.”

MMA strives to be an employer of choice and an active member of the greater Sioux Falls community. These are just some of the programs and commitments that make MMA a top place to work:

Cultivating well-being

Life at MMA starts with recognizing and appreciating that our colleagues have lives outside of MMA. We’ve built a culture that promotes colleague well-being through robust benefit programs and resources, encourages professional and personal development and celebrates opportunities to pursue the projects and causes that give colleagues fulfillment outside of work.

Inspiring colleagues

Steve Vlk, MMA Dakotas CEO, is committed to helping his team grow personally and professionally. In 2022, he invited his friend and speaker John O’Leary to share his inspirational story with the Dakotas teams. This year, O’Leary is returning to lead virtual sessions on topics chosen by the MMA employees. He will share inspirational insights, interact with the team and focus on elevating their lives by taking the next right step.

Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

At MMA, we say “Who you are is who we are.” We believe that when we all thrive together, there is no limit to what we can do. Under the leadership of Kira Kimball, chief DE&I officer, MMA aims to embed guiding principles of diversity, equality and inclusion to facilitate a culture of understanding, enhance our colleague experience and serve as a key component of our business strategy.

Tradition of supporting the community

Being active and involved in the community is important to MMA. The combined MMA Dakotas offices gave more than $560,000 in donations and sponsorships to their communities last year.
