Maker to debut products at 605 Made Holiday Market

A little Pinterest inspiration led to a full-time role as a maker for Jennifer May more than a decade ago.
And she continues to evolve her handmade business with new products, including some for sale for the first time at Saturday’s 605 Made Holiday Market.
May, who lives near Parker, grew up on a dairy farm and worked in sales for a construction supply company before her handmade hobby grew into a business.
“I got that passion later in life,” she said. “I always loved vintage campers, so I redid those, and then just one day I saw something on Pinterest and thought, ‘I can do something like that.’ And I just started on my kitchen counter making signs.”
It grew into 316 Legacy, a nod to John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
For May, “everything I do is because of God, and it’s his legacy,” she said. “That’s where I came up with the name.”
She salvages material locally for a variety of home decor, including repurposed windows, humorous signs and a popular design using the county numbers for South Dakota license plates on a map.
She also has a T-shirt line featuring state-inspired designs.
Her newest line is printed on canvas. It includes a variety of sayings and a fun design featuring all the national parks.
It has been a full-time business for May since 2008. She sells online, at Stacey’s Vintage-Art-Boutique between Sioux Falls and Tea, and she travels nationwide to large vendor shows.
May said she appreciates selling at the 605 Made Holiday Market because it’s set up as one continuous shop, which saves her hours of setting up, tearing down and running a booth.
“That’s a huge thing for me,” she said.
