Local woman expands floral business to new storefront

April 30, 2025

What started as a passion for floral design and the need for a little extra income three years ago now has grown into a brick-and-mortar store in central Sioux Falls.

Tania Mejia opened The Flower Bar in the Southway Shopping Center near 29th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

“I’ve always loved flowers, but the fact that I can express myself, be creative as I’m building bouquets and designing my own, that’s what really brought it together,” Mejia said.

Mejia offers florals for any occasion, including Korean-wrapped bouquets, vase arrangements, mixed bouquets and luxury boxes. Red roses wrapped in black Korean paper is a customer favorite in addition to mixed blooms.

She said she loves the ability to create arrangements that often aren’t found in the Sioux Falls area.

“I like being able to offer a storefront with more options than your typical vase arrangements, so this makes me really happy,” she added. “I want to help people create memories through flowers.”

The store at 2109 S. Minnesota Ave., which opened April 1, offers a build-your-own bouquet flower bar, a variety of succulents, custom-order catalogs, a selection of pre-made arrangements for drop-in customers and a floral photo backdrop.

The Flower Bar offers delivery in the Sioux Falls area as well as through DoorDash.

Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
