This paid event listing is sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls.
Get ready for a memorable adventure while raising funds to bring needed housing to area families.
Just a few tickets remain for Habitat for Humanity’s annual murder mystery fundraiser from 5:30 to 9 p.m. March 28 at The District in Sioux Falls.
The Raise the Roof Reckoning will feature pirate-themed murder mystery entertainment from Jest Murder Mystery Co. and a delicious meal from ROAM Kitchen + Bar.
All attendees will receive a character for the evening and can choose to take part in the action or sit back and enjoy the show. Costumes are encouraged but not required for this fun night on the Seven Seas.
“We weren’t sure how people would respond the first year we put this event on. We ended up selling out, and 95 percent of the attendees showed up dressed to the theme,” said Jadeyn Sjaarda, marketing and communications coordinator.
“The feedback we most often get is that it is refreshing to be able to raise money for a great cause in a laid-back setting. There are a lot of steak and chicken plated galas, but there is only one Habitat murder mystery event.”
It’s far from a typical fundraising gala.
“Yes, we want to raise money and tell you what that money can do for local families and students, but most of the night is pure fun and entertainment,” Sjaarda said.
From the moment you walk into the event, you’re immersed in the theme and greeted by the Jest Murder Mystery Co. actors.
Before the show starts, guests can socialize, get their picture taken in a photo booth and check out the fun raffle prizes available.
“The actors had us constantly laughing last year, and we were told by many people how much they enjoyed this acting company,” Sjaarda said.
“People can dress as pirates, mermaids, sea creatures or anything else they believe fits our seafaring theme. It’s fun to see what people come up with. We know that costumes aren’t for everyone, but if people want to still fit the theme, wear black, red or stripes.”
Tickets are $100 per person, and the recommended age to attend is 18 or older because of the adult humor used in the show. Tickets are limited, and the event has reached capacity the past three years it was held.
All proceeds from the event will support Habitat for Humanity’s homes built in partnership with local schools, giving students hands-on construction experience and teaching them the value of giving back to their community.
“This fundraiser is a key part of being able to fulfill our mission. All the proceeds from the event are used to help fund our homes built by local students,” Sjaarda said.
“It not only supports families in our program who can now affordably purchase a safe place to call home, but it builds the future of our construction workforce and allows students to give back. We are building with more than 200 students this school year alone.”
