Land and Lending Conference to cover changes in real estate markets, lending environment

Sept. 2, 2024

This paid event listing is sponsored by the South Dakota Land and Lending Conference.

Advance your understanding of real estate markets while building relationships at the annual South Dakota Land and Lending Conference.

The event from the SDSU Ness School of Management and Economics will be Oct. 15 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

Conference attendees will take a broad look at real estate markets, including how they are affected by conditions in the bank-lending channel and by decisions of public policymakers — bank regulators, for example.

The event encourages and strengthens relationships among academic researchers — including Ness School faculty members — real estate professionals, lenders and policymakers in South Dakota and beyond.

This year, the conference will feature four main-stage events and several breakout sessions.

“The conference aligns with the school’s vision to advance decision-making richly informed by business and economic analysis,” Ness School director Joe Santos said.

“The conference is a great example of the school’s societal impact. We design the conference around current problems — think, objectives in the real estate space that we endeavor to achieve and the constraints we confront along the way — and how to solve them.”

This year, attendees will confront the consequences — to interest rates and otherwise — of the rising federal debt, challenges and opportunities in regional real estate markets, the path forward for setting real estate appraiser standards and qualifications, and credit conditions in the bank-lending channel.

In the breakout sessions, participants will analyze real estate cycles, agricultural land market trends, weather patterns and farmland valuations, artificial intelligence and the appraisal industry, private equity investment strategies in real estate, land appraisal methods and residential real estate after the recent National Association of Realtors settlement.

“The conference will bring together nationally recognized experts who will offer informed, unvarnished analyses of the issues,” Santos said.
