Koch Hazard partner returned home to build career

Dec. 3, 2019

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Brooke Wegener, a partner and chief strategy officer at Koch Hazard Architects.

Name: Brooke (Orcutt) Wegener

Age: 36

Hometown: Sioux Falls

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

I was born and raised in Sioux Falls but left for about 10 years. I initially moved back to be closer to my family.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

My family, my job and our wonderful city amenities: downtown, events/festivals, bike trails, parks and close proximity to larger cities.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I enjoy the variety of tasks and the people I work with.

How did you get connected to your industry?

I responded to an ad on CareerBuilder.com for a marketing coordinator in 2011. I came up from Kansas City, Mo., for a 30-minute interview and was offered the job about 15 minutes following that interview. My roles and responsibilities have been changing and growing ever since.

Describe Koch Hazard in three words.

Quality. Award-winning. Community-orientated.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

Volunteering my time.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

I don’t have a good answer for this, but as long as Sioux Falls continues to market itself as a great place for business — startup or established — the possibilities are endless for what could move in next.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Attending many kids’ extracurricular activities, continuing to grow as a professional, volunteering more and continuing to assist Koch Hazard Architects in changing the landscape of Sioux Falls and our surrounding communities.
