Get ready for a week of entertainment – both on stage and on the golf course – thanks to a full lineup of events during the Sanford International.

Sanford International LIVE! offers fans of all kinds the chance to take in a premier concert and a first-class golf tournament all in the same week.

Country music star Jake Owen takes the stage Sept. 15 at the Sanford Pentagon.

“We are always looking to keep the event fresh,” tournament director Davis Trosin said.

“Adding something like Sanford International LIVE! allows us to do that and get a different demographic of fans interacting with our event. By purchasing a concert ticket, concert-goers receive complimentary grounds access to the tournament that Friday, so it is essentially a two-for-one experience.”

Ticket holders also will experience top-quality venues at both places, Trosin said.

“The Sanford Pentagon is a tremendous venue to take in a concert. It is intimate for all ticket buyers, and we can also offer a premium experience for those who purchase VIP tickets or a private suite,” he said.

“This also brings new spectators out to Minnehaha Country Club to take in the Sanford International and hopefully shows any newcomers how enjoyable our tournament is even if they aren’t that interested in golf.”

Owen, who has had nine singles top the country music charts in his career, “is a natural fit” for the event “as he plays the type of upbeat country music that makes for a fun show,” Trosin said.

“Jake recently released his seventh studio album, which features some beachy country music anthems that he is known for. He is also an incredible golfer, and we are hoping to get him to play in our Pro-Am so spectators can get a taste of what his game is like on the golf course.”

That definitely could happen because Owen is a friend of tournament regular John Daly.

“When we were talking about adding an opener to the show, we immediately reached out to John. He has a few albums, knows his way around a guitar and is arguably the most entertaining figure in the history of professional golf,” Trosin said.

“People will sit and watch John play the slot machines at the casino, so we are certain they will be entertained when he opens up for Jake Owen with his friend Jocko at the Pentagon.”

Jocko is one of Daly’s longtime friends and has been dubbed as the “Human Jukebox” by the legendary golfer.

“He knows something like 3,000 songs and has made his way around different PGA TOUR Champions events playing gigs. He is tremendous and is going to bring some additional vibrancy to the opening performance with JD,” Trosin said.

“Jocko will be pulling double duty for us as he is scheduled to play live music during our Contest of Champions Brisket BBQ Contest on Saturday after play on the driving range.”

The barbecue contest is sponsored by the South Dakota Beef Industry Council and gives spectators the chance to try brisket smoked by five vendors and to vote on whose is the best. The contest tasting is open to the general public.

Sanford International LIVE! is brought to fans by community partners EMC and Good Boy Vodka. EMC is a longtime tournament partner, and Good Boy Vodka features Daly as a brand ambassador. Good Boy has a line of canned cocktails named after the legendary golfer, and they will be available at the concert along with its many natural seltzer flavors.
