Indoor-outdoor living on display at weekend event

By Jodi Schwan

Taking full advantage of outdoor living is a theme that weaves throughout homes available to tour this weekend.

What began as a project to add indoor-outdoor living space to a home at 519 W. Landscape Place turned into a full main-floor renovation done by Deffenbaugh Homes.

“That addition tied into everything else with the house. Since we were taking a lot of newer, cleaner materials for that space, we started doing it for the rest of the home,” Jesse Deffenbaugh said.

The 26-foot-by-26-foot addition is surrounded by windows, “and on the outside of the deck are phantom screens, so on a nice day you can drop the screens, open up all the doors, and the whole main level of the house is like an indoor-outdoor space,” he explained.

While the house was only seven years old, it never had the look the owner wanted, Deffenbaugh said.

So he changed out paint colors and replaced granite in the kitchen as well as some cabinets surrounding upgraded appliances and made improvements to the master bathroom.

“It’s a more contemporary look and feel with more function,” he said.

The home is one of 10 on this weekend’s Showcase of Remodeled Homes. For more information, click here.

The event also includes an Outdoor Living Showcase featuring eight properties and their outdoor space. To tour one, watch the video below.
