Tourism leaders in the state know that South Dakota has built a reputation for its friendly and welcoming people as evidenced by the countless number of visitors who go out of their way to make a comment about it.

Those who work in the tourism industry know the importance of being hospitable and knowledgeable as it often plays a big role in whether visitors decide to return to South Dakota.

“Our locals are our biggest ambassadors when it comes to making people feel welcome in Sioux Falls, and everyone is always willing to provide recommendations on things to do or places to eat for visitors to our area,” said Teri Schmidt, Experience Sioux Falls CEO.

To help expand on this, ESF recently rolled out an online training program to further educate and inform not only those in customer service but also everyone.

Here’s an example of a question about Sioux Falls attractions:

“Our goal is to give people a chance to brush up on customer service skills while also potentially learning a thing or two about what there is to do in Sioux Falls,” said Krista Orsack, ESF director of marketing.

 The online training program is simple. Go to ExperienceSiouxFalls.com/Training, create an account, and take one of two available quizzes — but taking both is encouraged. Score well enough and you will earn yourself a Sioux Falls T-shirt.

ESF worked with local creative agency Lemonly to create the fun graphics found throughout the two quizzes: one on customer service and one on attractions. ESF will be updating the quizzes every few months with new content to learn.

“This online training program is intended for both those who are new to the workforce as well as those who may have decades of experience,” Schmidt said. “We believe there’s always something new to learn in our ever-changing world, and we want Sioux Falls to continue to be a No. 1 host city!”
