Visitors to GreatLIFE’s popular Performance Center location will enjoy new additions for the new year.
The fitness center at 69th Street and Southeastern Avenue will be adding a recovery lounge featuring a sauna and cold plunge tanks for contrast therapy.
“We knew it was something our members would want,” vice president of fitness Randall Hill said. “We added cold plunges at our Harrisburg location a few years ago, and the need for more options for contrast therapy has continued to grow. It’s going to be a really good spot for it.”
The hope is to open the recovery lounge in early spring. Members will have the option to add access on to their membership, which also will allow them to use GreatLIFE’s other recovery lounges at Harrisburg and Woodlake. Those offer Hydromassage beds and Hyperice products, including compression therapy, percussion massage devices, vibrating foam rollers and vibrating Hyperspheres.
GreatLIFE Performance Center also recently became one of two locations to add the Kinotek movement assessment system, a technology that involves a 3D camera to track certain movements and help set fitness goals.
“It gives an objective movement score and uses AI to help with corrective exercises, so it will let you know if you need to strengthen certain muscles or work on mobility in certain areas or stabilize certain joints to move better,” Hill said.
“We have had great feedback from our members, and it’s one of those areas that technology can really help you customize your workout to move better. It gives us the ability to take the information and put it into your workout program or have a trainer help you be able to move better, prevent injury and improve quality of life.”
The southeast Sioux Falls fitness center is popular with members, Hill added.
“We have a really wide range of members who utilize the Performance Center. We see a lot of families because of our GreatKIDS child care, and the basketball courts are a popular place to bring kids,” he said.
“Group fitness is big there as well. For most of the year, we get to enjoy the outdoor workout space and large outdoor turf area. But really, we have people of all ages who work out here. It’s really a place for all ages, and our team does a great job making sure everyone feels comfortable and supported no matter where they are starting.”
Next door, a new tenant will be complementing the fitness use of the building.
The South Dakota Fellowship of Christian Athletes will locate its new sports facility adjacent to the GreatLIFE Performance Center. The FCA Performance Center will be unique globally for FCA and allow South Dakota FCA a place for its growing sports programming.
FCA already offers programming in football, flag football, soccer and wrestling and plans to launch basketball, speed and agility, golf, baseball and softball programs for athletes of all ages this year.
The 17,000-square-foot space is near where FCA has had its office near the University of Sioux Falls stadium and Sioux Falls Christian. At the new facility, individual sports, leagues, and skills and fundamentals training will be offered for students in kindergarten through high school. Orthopedic Institute Performance and D1 Training previously occupied the space.
The new location allows FCA “to extend our reach in the community,” said Brian Hansen, South Dakota director of leagues. “We needed an indoor turf space that would allow us to expand our programs and reach kids of all ages.”
FCA will offer what he calls a 3-D program, incorporating physical, mental and spiritual development.
“The thing that sets us apart is we offer Bible-based, Christ-centered sports experiences and development,” Hansen said.
While the two organizations now share a building, “we have a great relationship with GreatLIFE and partnered with them in the past,” he said.
“They have blessed us financially as coalition members of GreatLIFE Cares and made it possible for us to be in this space through their generosity and shared vision to help us carry out our ministry. We are grateful to Tom Walsh Sr. and Tom Walsh Jr. for their hearts to serve kids in this community and their ongoing support of FCA.”
The new space for FCA “is in great shape,” he added. “But we are replacing the turf and making a few minor changes in the office space.”
The plan is to open in February.
“We’re excited to welcome FCA as a neighbor at the Performance Center,” said Nick Ovenden, GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness president.
“While our organizations remain independent, we share a common passion for positively impacting our community, especially young people, and we look forward to supporting one another as we continue that important work.”
