Google internship leads Up-and-Comer to Sioux Falls ag-tech company

May 29, 2018

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Andy Cahoy, director of inside sales at Farmers Business Network.

Name: Andy Cahoy

Age: 31

Hometown: Aberdeen

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

I had the opportunity to launch the inside sales team at Farmers Business Network Inc., FBN, in 2016.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

I’m fortunate enough to work with some of America’s most talented and driven professionals, both in agriculture and in technology. Those people are right here at FBN!

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I enjoy seeing driven, motivated people develop quickly in their careers, while at the same time scaling the fastest-growing company in ag. There’s a new, exciting challenge every day — but the bigger the challenge, the more worthwhile.

How did you get connected to your industry?

I’ve owned some rural pastureland in Clark County, S.D., since 2008 and have strong agricultural ties in my family. However, my prior professional experience comes from serving as an Army infantry officer for over five years until I left active duty to pursue my MBA in 2014. In the summer of 2015, I was an MBA intern at Google in Mountain View, Calif. — the same summer that FBN announced its Series B financing round led by Google Ventures. I was fortunate enough to get introduced to FBN’s early entrepreneurs, and the company’s mission resonated with me. I’ve been at FBN — and in the ag industry — ever since.

Describe Farmers Business Network in three words.

Only two words needed: “Farmers First.”

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

I’d like to see even more early stage technology companies stake out ground here in Sioux Falls — it’s a great place to grow. We’ve hired over 50 employees who have relocated here from all over the country to join FBN. I’ve been a part of that recruiting effort and have seen first-hand that this is a great place to attract and build a world-class, high-growth organization.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I’ll still be here at our national operations center here in Sioux Falls, and FBN will still be reshaping the farm economy to improve the livelihoods of farmers everywhere. More and more farmers will unlock the value of FBN, and FBN will be one of the largest and most valuable ag companies worldwide.

Projected to be a billion-dollar company, this Sioux Falls operations base has ‘a long, long way to grow’
