Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for March.

Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee employees and first responders gave away 300 Hormel Cure 81 hams to families in need as part of the One Step Hams for the Holidays campaign. The event March 24 at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds was one of 15 stops Hy-Vee made across eight states to deliver nearly 5,000 hams.

Harrisburg High School received $5,000 from Hy-Vee as part of its Fuel Your School sweepstakes. The grocery store chain awarded a total of $75,000 to 55 schools across its eight-state region as part of its commitment to support local communities and schools throughout the pandemic. The. Hy-Vee customers who were winners in the sweepstakes received prizes and selected a school for the donation. Harrisburg was one of five grand prize-winning recipients. Hawthorne and Rosa Parks elementary schools in Sioux Falls received $1,000 awards.

Sioux Falls Winter Carnival

With the help of volunteer committees, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire raised more than $194,00 for its programs during the third annual Sioux Falls Winter Carnival held Feb. 6-14. Two committees make up the planning efforts and fundraising support during Winter Carnival. The general committee is served by Ryan Mulder, Stephanie VerHey, Jada Entringer, Amanda Chaon, Kelly Meeker, Brenda Hanley, Audrey Flatgard, Samantha Brunner, Christine Fluth, Megan Lindely, Mallory Zeinstra and Sarah Lovre. The Frost Gala committee is served by co-chairs Kelly Yungbluth and Lisa Klein and members Laura Arnett, Jen Pfeiffer, Jody Nour, Amanda Kippley, Ashley Trankle, Elizabeth Carlson, Jilly Malloy, April Syverson, Trisha Dohn, Susie Heineman and Amanda Anderson.

Sioux Empire Home Builders Care Foundation

The Sioux Empire Home Builders Care Foundation is accepting applications for its high school scholarship program through April 2. The foundation will award multiple $1,000 scholarships for graduating high school seniors who will be attending a college, university or technical college and majoring in a homebuilding industry-related field of study. Scholarship recipients must reside in Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha or Turner counties. The Sioux Empire Home Builders Care Foundation has awarded over $72,000 in scholarship funds to area high school seniors over the years.
