June 30, 2021

Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for June.

Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation

The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation is accepting proposals for grants from its Opening Doors collaborative fund. Organizations and ideas dedicated to lifting up disadvantaged individuals, families and children in the Sioux Falls area should submit proposals by Aug. 31. Proposals may be for new or existing programs. Typical grants range from $2,000 to $10,000. Learn more and submit a proposal online at sfacf.org.

The Teddy Bear Den, led by executive director Sandy Lown, is a past recipient of an Opening Doors grant. The organization inspires economically disadvantaged pregnant women to seek early and regular prenatal care.

Hy-Vee

Hy-Vee Inc. donated 1,168 hams to Feeding South Dakota as part of its Ending Summer Hunger initiative to help provide meat to food banks throughout its eight-state region. The Feeding South Dakota delivery weighed more than 6 tons and was worth more than $36,600.

Midco Foundation

The Midco Foundation has awarded more than $100,000 to 69 nonprofits, schools and government organizations across the Midwest. These grant recipients have been recognized as positive changemakers in their 33 respective communities.

The Salvation Army provides a weekday program that provides working families with a safe, educational option for children when they aren’t in school.

Grant recipients from the Sioux Falls area include South Dakota HDSA, Family Service Inc., Sioux Falls Stage, McCrossan Boys Ranch, Accelerate, American Red Cross South Dakota, The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls and Accurate and Conscious Education Academy. The awards ranged from $1,000 to $2,000.

Accelerate helps children with autism or other disabilities receive intensive occupational and speech therapy services regardless of their ability to pay. Accelerate is using its Midco Foundation grant to purchase a laptop so it can bill private insurance.

The Midco Foundation board reviews and approves funding requests to charitable entities twice a year and encourages nonprofit organizations to apply for future grants for special projects, facilities improvements, equipment and programs. Review the requirements, criteria and application at Midco.com/Foundation. Applications are being accepted for the fall grant cycle until Aug. 31.
