Giving Back for August
Aug. 31, 2023
Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for August.
Alliance Communications
Alliance Communications is recognizing and awarding area residents for the ways they give back to their communities. The Brandon-based communications cooperative launched its Good Deeds campaign in July. The campaign asks individuals within Alliance’s service area to nominate themselves or someone who gives back to their community. Throughout the year, three finalists will receive $500 to donate to a local school or nonprofit organization they love. Here are the first Alliance customers to be selected and the organizations they chose to support:
- Brandon Lutheran Quilt Group member Diane Rollag, $400 to Brandon Lutheran Church for its HVAC system and $100 to the Brandon VFW.
- Hudson Fire & Ambulance volunteers Gene and Jess Just, $250 to the Hudson Fire Department and $250 to Hudson Ambulance.
- Alcester-Hudson Schools Superintendent Tim Rhead, $500 to the Hudson playground fundraiser.
Individuals in Alliance’s service area can submit a Good Deeds nomination at alliancecom.net/community until Dec. 14 for the next round of recognition.
Fareway
Fareway Stores Inc. raised more than $171,000 for Variety – the Children’s Charity through its annual Round Up at the Register campaign. Customers at all 138 stores had the opportunity to round up to the next dollar or provide an additional donation on their grocery bill throughout July to help fund Variety’s mission. The funds will stay in the state in which they were raised. Variety is dedicated to improving the lives of children who are at risk, underprivileged, critically ill or living with special needs.
Wells Fargo Foundation
The Wells Fargo Foundation has awarded a $1.7 million grant to the South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition. The grant through the Invest Native initiative will support the coalition’s continued growth and development, including creating a housing development subsidiary to support tribal communities in their efforts to increase the number of safe and affordable homes.
