Gil Haugan Construction announces new CEO

April 14, 2025

Gil Haugan Construction has appointed a new CEO.

Jason Kleinschmit will take on the role May 1, following the retirement of vice president Wes Engbers.

The CEO role has been created to expand upon the responsibilities of the vice president position, the company said in a statement.

Kleinschmit has served as operations manager since 2021.

Before joining Gil Haugan Construction, he spent 17 years in commercial construction. He also serves as a lieutenant colonel in the South Dakota Army National Guard, and his role has included overseeing large-scale operations during deployments.

Engbers has been an integral part of Gil Haugan Construction for 40 years. He joined the company in 1985 as a superintendent and steadily advanced through numerous roles and responsibilities before assuming the vice president role, where he has served for the past 20 years. His leadership and dedication have played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s growth, reputation and commitment to excellence, the company said in a news release.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to Wes for his decades of dedication and leadership,” said Gil Haugan Jr., president and owner. “His impact on this company is immeasurable, and we are grateful for his years of service. As we look ahead, we are excited about the future of our company under Jason’s guidance. His proven track record in both construction and leadership positions has prepared him to drive continued growth and success.”
