Game Chest opens in new location

June 29, 2022

Game Chest has settled right into its newest location.

The game store has opened at 2115 S. Minnesota Ave. in the Southway Center.

Amanda and Ben Wermers opened the store in 2017 and moved because their most recent downtown location was in a building that’s being redeveloped.

Opening weekend “went great,” Amanda Wermers said. “We had nonstop customers from 11 a.m. until about 8 p.m. Seeing the surprise on the faces of our community was priceless.”

In addition to retail space, the store includes an event area that already has hosted more than 40 people playing games at once.

“There’s more than enough space for everyone,” Wermers said.

“We had several new customers as well and hope to continue to welcome new people into the Game Chest community in this open and inviting space.”

The rental library has a new approach, with a $5 fee now providing a full week.

“We want it to be convenient and accessible more than anything,” Wermers said.

“For those who want to support even more, we still have our Key Holder’s Guild, which has been a true pillar for us during difficult times like COVID, construction and the moves.”

Store hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The event space, rental library and rooms are available until 10 p.m. every Wednesday through Saturday.
