Taste wine with your neighbors.
Bring a friend and learn to make cocktails.
Do yoga on the river, or join a neighborly walk.
It’s about more than coming home to a downtown loft address for residents of Pendar Properties’ communities.
“We are trying to build a community that goes deeper than just living next to each other,” said Ashton Sperle, Pendar’s marketing manager.
For instance, each Wednesday from June through August, Pendar Properties has been hosting special events open to all its residents downtown — from The Carpenter and Railyard Flats to the newly opened Clark Lofts and Dakota Flats at Cherapa Place.
“We’ve promoted these as ways to engage with the downtown community while also getting to know your neighbors and our commercial tenants, so it’s a win for everybody,” Sperle said.
For example, Pendar residents enjoyed invites to yoga with SISU Fit on the riverfront, a cocktail class by Barcart, wine tastings with iv&co, a night of fun at EightyOne Arcade Bar and an informal mile walk on the bike trail.
On the final Wednesday of those months, Pendar has been hosting a Party on the Plaza at Cherapa Place, bringing complementary drinks to the courtyard, live music, food trucks and lawn games.
“It’s nice because with such a variety of events we see different people,” Sperle said. “Tenants are always invited to bring a friend, and it becomes something fun to do close to home.”
More informal resident appreciation happens every week, when Pendar residents are offered half-price beverages at Highball inside Railyard Flats every Tuesday and half off whiskey drinks there every Wednesday.
All residents also can host their own gatherings by reserving the community lounges on the top level of Railyard Flats and inside Clark Lofts and Dakota Flats.
“We’re always trying to figure out what we can do that benefits everyone and how we can activate not just the Cherapa community but Railyard Flats and The Carpenter as well,” Sperle said.
Events will scale back a bit in September with the end of summer, but food trucks will continue to offer dining options on the plaza every Tuesday, and Highball will host a final Dog Days of Summer pop-up food event benefiting Sioux Empire Pit Rescue on Sept. 25, beginning at 4:30 p.m. until food runs out.
Plus, the entire Sioux Falls community and beyond is invited to Cherapa Place as it hosts Riverfest from 2 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20.
“We’ll also be continuing to talk to residents about the kind of events they’d like to see us host,” Sperle said. “And while they’re geared to our residential tenants, we also make them available to those who work in our buildings in case they’d like to explore what living here might look like.”
