Four restaurants share where Sioux Falls fits in their plans

May 25, 2018

Some have Sioux Falls stores on the horizon, while others are waiting for the right person to bring a location to town.

We checked in with four fast-growing restaurant chains at RECON in Las Vegas for an update on where they’re at with plans to come to Sioux Falls.

Jersey Mike’s Subs

Jersey Mike’s Subs is adding dozens of locations annually, but so far South Dakota hasn’t seen any of them.

The sandwich concept has been looking for a franchisee for the past several years.

There have been people interested, but no agreements came together. The company would like to be in the market, but the search for a franchisee continues.

On the Border

The sit-down Mexican restaurant has a franchisee with a location in Rapid City.

That would be the likely person to develop a store in Sioux Falls.

On the Border would be open to it if the franchisee chose to expand to the market and found a location that fit.

On the Border is a Mexican grill and cantina with a menu of enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, burritos and bowls.

Tim Hortons

Tim Hortons and Burger King share the same parent company, which is expanding the home of the Whopper into Canada and expanding Canada-based Tim Hortons into the U.S.

The chain is known for its coffee and pastries, and has been steadily expanding west along the Great Lakes region from New York to Minnesota.

All of the growth is franchisee-based, but South Dakota is “on our radar, absolutely,” a representative said.

He predicts there will be locations in Sioux Falls in two years.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe

Featuring flatbreads, sandwiches, salads, wraps, bowls and its signature smoothies, Tropical Smoothie Cafe is looking to grow into markets such as Sioux Falls.

It has identified the Midwest as a growth area but is looking for a franchisee to develop Sioux Falls.

There are 650 locations nationwide.
