Florist opening in downtown Hartford

Nov. 27, 2018

Backdoor Garden flower shop plans to open in downtown Hartford early next year.

Owner Rickie Kunzweiler has been operating the floral and event planning service online for six years and decided to add a physical location.

Backdoor Garden specializes in flower and home decor design and will provide work on weddings, funerals, holiday parties and other special events.

As soon as renovations are complete, Backdoor Garden will open in the former bank and post office space in the historic Mundt Building.

“This building has been speaking to me for a long time. I love antiques, and I love to incorporate flowers with antiques. The Mundt Building brings out that historic part of Hartford that I want to incorporate into design, with a little edge for the 21st century,” Kunzweiler said.

Backdoor Garden also will display works from local artists.

“We’re excited to see Backdoor Garden invest their time and resources into downtown Hartford,” said Jesse Fonkert, director of the Hartford Area Development Foundation. “Rickie and Backdoor Garden will complement the recent additions of Modish Designs & Boutique and Buffalo Ridge Brewing downtown.”
