Expansive indoor playground to open in Sioux Falls

Oct. 15, 2026

NRG Adventure Park, which calls itself “an extreme indoor playground,” is coming to Sioux Falls.

The concept blends multiple indoor play features, from trampolines and ball pits to climbing structures, slides and foam pits.

“NRG is a next-level indoor playground/adventure zone where kids, teens and adults can be active together,” head of operations Zachary Wittman said. “We’re built for high-energy fun but in a clean, safe, climate-controlled space that works year-round.”

NRG has leased space in the retail center off 41st Street between Grange and West avenues in the spot that used to be Hobby Lobby. It previously was slated for Urban Air, a similar concept, but the business never moved forward with its plans.

“What makes NRG stand out is that it’s more than just trampolines. We combine multiple attractions and challenges in one place, so there’s something for different ages and comfort levels,” Wittman said.

“Whether you’re coming for open play, a birthday party, a school group or a team event, the experience is designed to keep people moving, laughing and coming back, not just doing one activity and leaving.”

NRG offers daily passes and multiple membership options.

There’s a designated area for toddlers as well as activities such as a Ninja course and dodgeball for older ages. Special activities include “neon lights” and sensory-friendly experiences.

There’s also an arcade and redemption center.

There are seven locations open and at least eight more coming soon. The Sioux Falls location will be similar to one in Fargo, said Mike Van Buskirk of Van Buskirk Cos., which owns the retail center.

“This group has been around a long time. They typically were in restaurants — they have a significant number of restaurants (including KPOT in Sioux Falls) — and believe in the entertainment concept and have been very active,” he said.

“This is a pretty centrally located location, you’ve got the Costco traffic, and for us it’s a big user from a landlord perspective.”

As a location, “it checked the big boxes for us,” Wittman said. “It’s easy to get to, it’s highly visible, and it’s close to the kind of shopping and dining people already visit, so it’s convenient for families and group outings.”

The company likes Sioux Falls “because it’s a strong family community,” he added.

“The Sioux Falls community is growing, it’s active, and people here really show up for local entertainment. For us, that’s the perfect fit because NRG is built around families spending time together and kids having a place to burn energy year-round.”

There is no estimated opening date although it is expected to be sometime in 2027.

The retail center, known as the 41st Street Marketplace, is filling up. There’s one 15,000-square-foot space left that’s currently being used by Spirit Halloween.

“A business that brings high traffic and value-oriented products/service is what I want to target to fill this space,” said Autumn Kaufhold of Van Buskirk, who has it listed for lease. “Drugstore/pharmacy, bookstore, mattress store are just the start of my prospect list.”

The surrounding tenants rank high within their companies, she added.

“The ‘anchor’ traffic, co-tenant performance and trade-area demographics will help us backfill the final box space,” she said.
