Are you thinking of starting a biotech-related business?

In the middle of trying to do commercial research?

Or an industry professional looking to stay connected?

Mark your calendar for Oct. 8 because the annual South Dakota Biotech Summit will be valuable for you.

Held at the Washington Pavilion from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the event – called Breakthrough – will deliver timely updates on the strides our biotech industry is making in South Dakota and beyond.

“Biotechnology is changing and evolving so rapidly that every year brings a multitude of new developments to share,” said Joni Johnson, executive director of South Dakota Biotech.

“The summit is a way to learn about what’s happening all around us – from human and animal health to agriculture – and collaborate on how we can continue breaking through barriers of deploying these new technologies to heal, fuel and feed a growing world.”

New this year, two tracks will deliver valuable information to attendees who are on either an entrepreneurial path to translation or who are seeking professional development.

“We’ve brought together some of the most forward-thinking and well-versed experts in our region,” Johnson said.

“Whether you’re an entrepreneur looking to start up or commercialize, or a biotech professional looking to stay current with your knowledge, we have the resources you need.”

The summit also will include a panel of state biotech leaders representing Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska who will share best practices and address common challenges.

The summit concludes with the annual meeting of South Dakota Biotech, the state affiliate for BIO, the industry’s largest trade organization.
