The Empire Mall will be looking for a new director of marketing and business development.

James Payer is leaving the role he has held since 2020. He’s becoming the area director of marketing and business development for two malls in Indianapolis owned by Empire Mall parent company Simon.

“This professional advancement will provide me the opportunity to directly supervise an expanded marketing team, lead efforts with the largest shopping mall in the state of Indiana, advance elevated events, including the Indy 500 Fashion Show coupled with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, assist in the development of companywide pilot programming and deepen my experience with premier luxury shopping,” he said in a statement.

“While I’ll be closing this chapter with joy and memories, I’ll be avidly cheering all the developments and fun of Sioux Falls from afar. And above all, I’ll be excited to see someone who takes on this role with new vision and leadership.”

In addition to his role at The Empire Mall, Payer had extensive community volunteer involvement, including roles with the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and Young Professionals Network.
