Would you like to shop farm-fresh food downtown during the week? A first-time event on Wednesday will celebrate Earth Day and launch a potential monthly event.

The Earth Day Market will be from 4 to 7 p.m. April 22 along Reid Street within the Cherapa Place development between Sixth and Eighth streets. Find free parking inside the ramp that serves the development and connects directly to Pomegranate Market.

“This should be a fun event for downtown residents and families with children alike,” said Jonah Snyder, co-owner of market organizer Pomegranate Market.

At Pomegranate Market, which opened its second store in Sioux Falls at Cherapa Place late last year, “we’ve been blessed to work with nearly 100 vendors over the years,” he added. “We wouldn’t be who we are without them. We see the farmers market as an opportunity to celebrate each of them and bring attention to the importance of supporting the local food supply chain.”

Visitors to the Earth Day Market will be able to shop 25 local vendors who have signed up to participate, representing a broad range of food products, wellness and body care items.

“We were very pleased with the great response and interest from our local vendors,” Snyder said. “We’ll have produce, baked goods, honey, eggs, beef, ice cream, salsa, vegan food, kombucha, dairy products and more. We worked hard to cover all the staple categories folks who frequent farmers markets are looking for.”

Live music will be provided by Blue Moon Rhythm, while SISU Fit will host free outdoor yoga outside its gym at Cherapa Place.

Visitors also will receive coupons for 10 percent off their next shopping trip at either Pomegranate Market store.

“As lifetime residents of the Sioux Falls community, we’re always looking for ways give back and spread a little joy,” Snyder said.

“We feel responsibility to be builders of the types of communities we want to be a part of. Farmers markets are beloved and valuable events that play in important part in supporting a lively and bustling community like Sioux Falls.”

Farmers markets “sit at a unique intersection of local food and community events,” he added.

“For some, it’s a weekly ritual to stock the fridge with fresh, local products; for others, it’s a chance to get out of the house and do something fun. As Sioux Falls continues to grow, we wanted to create one more way for people to shop and eat local. Ultimately, we want to lower the barrier to clean, local eating while strengthening connections within our community.”

If the community responds, Pomegranate Market is looking at hosting a monthly market.

“We think there is a lot of opportunity to bring people downtown with good food and good events,” Snyder said. “Right now, we’re working on gathering feedback both from our vendors and the community about what time of the week is ideal.”

If you can’t make it this Wednesday, almost everything sold at the farmers market also can be found every day at the two Pomegranate Market locations.

“We work closely with each vendor to keep their products in stock and ready for our shoppers any day of the week,” Snyder said. “Our team is happy to help you find what you’re looking for or discover something new.”
