The annual Spirit of Downtown award has been presented to the Jacobson family of Sioux Falls.

Garry Jacobson and his family are the lead, namesake donors for Jacobson Plaza, which is under construction at Falls Park West.

It will bring a new ice ribbon, warming house and restaurant, as well as a large fully accessible playground, splash pad and dog park to the area.

The nomination for the award from Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. praised the Jacobsons for “leaving a legacy of joy and delight for families to experience for the years to come.”

“Sioux Falls is so fortunate to have generous people like the Jacobson’s to help us become the best version of Sioux Falls that we can be,” it said.

The award was presented at the recent DTSF annual meeting. Two new members also were added to the organization’s board of directors — Vince Danh, co-founder of 4Front Studios, and Catherine Dekkenga, principal architect and market leader for JLG Architects.
