Downtown pub’s newest menu is just for pups

July 19, 2024

The newest menu at a downtown Sioux Falls pub serves a four-legged clientele.

This week, Blarney Stone Pub at 333 S. Phillips Ave. introduced its “Bone Apple-teeth” menu that’s available for dogs on the patio.

“People are really liking it,” said general manager Nick Wanner. “We’re getting a lot of traction on it, a lot of exposure,” he said of sharing the news on social media.

The dogs at a photo shoot for the marketing liked the menu too. “They ate up the stuff we put out like crazy,” Wanner said. “It was awesome.”

While owners enjoy a pint of Guinness, their pets can have a “dogtail,” or cocktail. Options include grass-fed beef bone broth and Puppy Lyte, a canine electrolyte supplement – each served in a dog bowl.

Entrees include a burger patty, chicken breast or salmon fillet – all grilled to a desired doneness. There’s also scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese.

For dessert or just as a treat, Pup Ice is a frozen chew made with chicken and vegetable starch and flavored with watermelon.

Everything is healthy for dogs, Wanner said.

“We did some modifiers to current products that we have, like we’re not seasoning the chicken or the beef or the salmon. We have things like wild rice, white rice and peas already that we serve in house, so we utilize those as side options instead of fries. We made it healthy for dogs, and it turned out really well.”

Wanner, who owns two small dogs, started working on the idea of the menu last summer but set it aside when the weather started to get colder.

Now, the menu is available whenever the patio is open; food service is available outside from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m daily. The patio that sits between the sidewalk and the curb has four tables, each with room for four human customers and their dogs.

While Blarney Stone has always set out dog bowls on the patio and filled them with water for dogs when they joined their owners, the new menu offers a lot more.

Owners “can just get something small for their dogs (the ‘dogtails’ are $4.75), or if they really want to treat their dogs, there’s a salmon fillet on there,” Wanner said. “So they can buy a $22 salmon fillet — just depending on what they want to do for their pet.”
