Dollar General has opened a store in east-central Sioux Falls next to a neighborhood grocery.

The 7,300-square-foot sales floor is filled with brand-name and private label products and includes everything from groceries and cleaning supplies to beauty products and kitchenware. The majority of products are more than $1.

The central aisles include home decor.

The new building is at 17th Street and Cleveland Ave., just north of Andy’s Affiliated Foods. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

“At Dollar General, we believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic growth for the communities we proudly serve, and the addition of our new Sioux Falls store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes great prices on quality products in a convenient location,” Dan Nieser, senior vice president of real estate and store development, said in a news release.  “We look forward to welcoming customers to our new store and hope they will enjoy shopping at our new location.”

The store offers fee-free online shopping with pickup in the store.

The store accepts EBT payments from shoppers who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, benefits.

Western Union money-transfer services also are available.

To mark the opening of the store, Dollar General plans to donate 100 new books to Cleveland Elementary. Through a partnership with Kellogg Co., the businesses are donating more than 100,000 books to celebrate new store openings across the country.

In addition, schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius of any Dollar General store can apply for Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants. For information visit dgliteracy.com.

Tennessee-based Dollar General has opened more than 1,200 stores in the past year, reaching more than 17,900 stores in 46 states. The Cleveland store is the fifth location in Sioux Falls, and there are locations in Tea, Harrisburg, Brandon and several other cities in the four-county metro area.

A spokeswoman said there are no confirmed plans for additional stores in South Dakota, but it’s always looking for opportunities to grow.
