Dive bar reopens under new name, same ownership

March 10, 2025

East Sioux Falls dive bar fans are in luck.

There is new life on the property that formerly housed The Alibi Bar & Grill, and it’s called The Bar.

“We’re keeping the dive bar feel,” manager Travis Callies said. “Hoping to be the friendliest in town.”

When bar owners Justin and Chrissy Johnson of Triple J expanded The Alibi in 2023, building its new location across Arrowhead Parkway, there was consideration for a dispensary in the vacant bar amid talks of whether their liquor license would be renewed.

Major renovations to the intersection of Arrowhead and Six Mile Road also took away a chunk of the parking lot.

Callies said there was always hope that there would be a need to reopen a dive bar at 1004 S. Six Mile Road.

The space got a makeover, including fresh flooring, coats of paint and structural updates among others before reopening earlier this month.

The Bar features a full drink menu and 420 Pizza Co. homemade-to-frozen pizzas, along with pulled pork sandwiches. Plans include adding more food over time.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

“We have had a great crowd, and there has been nice exposure with our sign back on as people drive by,” Callies said.

He said he’s not worried about competition across the street.

“People like new and modern, which is great for what we have built across the street for east-siders, but people still like to go into an older place like this.”
