Cookie Jar owners announce plans to retire, look for buyer

Aug. 9, 2022

After 20 years of making cookies and sandwiches, the owners of The Cookie Jar Eatery are retiring and offering the downtown restaurant and catering business for sale.

Glen and Elaine Koch are the third couple to own the business, which marked its 50th anniversary this year.

“After being in business for 20 years, we have decided that the time has come to retire,” they said in an email to their customers. “Today, we are making the public announcement that The Cookie Jar is for sale. We would love to see the tradition of this business continue for another 50 years in Sioux Falls.”

They plan to keep the restaurant open while seeking a buyer.

The Kochs lease their space on the first floor of Shriver Square at 11th Street and Phillips Avenue.

The restaurant is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

“Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for daily updates,” they said. “We truly love Sioux Falls and have made some wonderful memories pursuing our dream of small-business ownership. Thank you for all the wonderful memories.”

As The Cookie Jar marks five decades, owners build family-like following
