Three construction workers were hurt in an accident this afternoon on the campus of Sanford USD Medical Center.

A section of scaffolding collapsed at the site of the new Orthopedic Hospital, adjacent to Sanford Children’s Hospital.

“Everyone is accounted for, including three construction workers who were taken to the emergency room for treatment of their injuries. We are unable to comment on the details of the injuries and will relay more information once it becomes available,” Sanford said in a statement.

“Our thoughts are with those who were impacted by this incident, and we want to express our gratitude to local emergency officials for responding quickly and efficiently to the site.”

The new Orthopedic Hospital is a nine-story building that has just started to go vertical after months of foundation work. It’s scheduled to be complete in 2025.
