Comings & Goings

Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.
Nevr Looz has opened at 317 S. Phillips Ave. The shop, which started online, sells golf bags with clips to hold clubs in place. The product was invented by Robert Weinmeier, who owns the business with his wife, Cindy Gloe-Weinmeier. Nevr Looz also carries her handcrafted golf head covers and other accessories. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
The former Session Ale Works, which closed in late January, has reopened as Hook & Ladder Kitchen & Bar. The owners wanted to give the west-side restaurant a new identity, look and menu. It’s located at 323 S. Whitewood Circle in the Firehouse 42 development near 12th Street and Ellis Road. Major patio updates are coming soon. Hook & Ladder is open daily.
Buildings that once housed Fiserv on Technology Drive are filling up with new tenants. Call to Freedom, a nonprofit that serves victims and survivors of human trafficking, will consolidate its three locations into one of the buildings. Collision Ministries, which trains churches nationwide to build student-led teams to spread the Gospel, will combine two offices into one in another building. Avera Health is leasing another building for dialysis services.
605 Magazine and 605 Creative Co. held a ribbon cutting April 23 for their new building at 726 E. Sixth St. Business owners Alana and John Snyder bought the building in early 2021 and gutted most of it before starting to remodel. The second floor includes four apartments that are branded as 605 Lofts and leased as short-term furnished rentals.
Increasing numbers of dog owners have led to at least three new businesses in the Sioux Falls area that offer pet services. WagZone Pet Services in Tea offers day care and boarding for dogs in a new building at 2000 Venture St. It’s owned by Peter Thompson and Heather Nearman Thompson. Grooming salon Moody Mutts opened in October 2024 in Harrisburg. It’s owned by Kenydie Hyde and Jasmine Weiler and features one-on-one grooming services. Jordan Boots and Bob Lundin operate Zoomin Groomin within a 35-mile radius of Sioux Falls. They started the mobile service, which is a franchise, in July 2024 and have grown it to include four vans.
Myer-Hall Machine Works has moved into its new location at 414 W. Industrial Road in Canton. Erik Hall and Jeremy Myer started the custom engineering firm in 2022.
Pet store EarthWise has new owners. Rhonda Lockwood, Mark Powell, their five sons and the sons’ families brought the store at 6223 S. Western Ave. from Scott and Julie Ward, who opened the franchise in 2018. The store sells pet supplies for dogs and cats and offers grooming services and self-serve dog-washing facilities.
Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet reopened April 25. The restaurant at 1100 W. 41st St. closed April 8 after multiple people connected to the business were arrested and later indicted on charges of harboring illegal workers for almost a decade.
Joann has closed its store in Brookings and announced that it will close all stores, including the one in Sioux Falls, by the end of May. The national fabrics and crafts retailer filed for bankruptcy in January and sold its assets to a liquidator in late February.
