Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

After 30 years of feeding Sioux Falls diners, Chef Tina Kuehn is retiring and closing her downtown restaurant. For the past few years, K Restaurant has been open only for special dinners and catering. The final wine dinner, which is sold out, is Dec. 19.

Sioux Falls-based High Plains Technology is becoming part of Eide Bailly LLP. The national certified public accounting and business advisory firm will acquire the technology solutions company Jan. 8, 2024.

The new Starbucks at Lake Lorraine is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. The stand-alone building with a drive-thru and patio is at 2230 S. Marion Road.

A new development on the market on the southern edge of Sioux Falls is proposed as a mix of uses. Academy Park is a 75-acre site on the southwest corner of 85th Street and Cliff Avenue, adjacent to the Harrisburg School District’s new Freshman Academy. The site plan shows potential for large retailers such as big-box stores or grocers but also several strip malls and other commercial buildings.

A Mexican ice cream shop from the owners of Giliberto’s Mexican Taco Shop has opened. La Michoakanita, featuring frozen treats made on-site and Mexican street food snacks, is in the original home of Giliberto’s at 712 S. Minnesota Ave. Winter hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The newest Thai restaurant in Sioux Falls features pad thai, curries, pork ribs with sticky rice and other favorite dishes in an express-style format. Thai10 is in the former Subway building at 1229 N. Minnesota Ave. The owners are Ruth and Sanaseuk Kitilach, who opened Mekong Asian Market in 2014. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Chase Bank has opened its fourth location in Sioux Falls. The bank moved into a renovated space on the first floor of Shriver Square at 11th Street and Phillips Avenue. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Owners of a wedding and event venue in a century-old barn on the north edge of Canton have announced it will remain open with new owners effective Jan. 1. Tyler and Courtney Tjeerdsma are buying The Canton Barn from Tim and Kalli Blackstone, who announced in June that they were closing it to focus on health and family.

Interiors Etc. is closing its retail storefront in the Jones421 Building but will continue to offer design services. The goal is to close by the end of January.

A retail center being built at Stadium Crossing on the northeast corner of 69th and Cliff has signed three tenants: Atomic Wings, Hotworx and VanLaecken Orthodontics. Atomic Wings is a national restaurant chain with local franchisees that’s planning to open in early spring. It features wings and tenders with 15 sauces, chicken sandwiches and salads. Hotworx, a sauna-style fitness studio, is expected to open its second Sioux Falls location by the end of the year. VanLaecken Orthodontics is relocating its office at 4320 S. Minnesota Ave. to Stadium Crossing, likely in March.

Children’s Home Society of South Dakota will consolidate its Black Hills programs into one location in Rapid City: the former National American University campus. The plan is to start construction in late 2024 and move there in mid-2026.

Invictus Pizza has opened in the former PizzaRev space at 3901 W. 49th St. The locally owned restaurant is open daily. In addition to build-your-own and specialty pizzas, the menu includes calzones, salads and desserts. It serves beer and wine.
