A baker who has been part of the farmers market at Lake Lorraine for a couple of years has opened his first shop at the west-side development. Alex Peterson’s Baking up a Storm is next to the lobby in The Blu on Lorraine, a six-story apartment building that just opened on the north side of the lake. The bakery specializes in filled cupcakes and kolaches. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday.

Two national retailers have opened their temporary Halloween stores in Sioux Falls. Spirit Halloween is at 1431 W. 41st St. in the retail center that also includes At Home. Halloween Express is at 2723 W. 41st St. in the retail center that also includes Pizza Ranch.

A Sioux Falls spa has moved and expanded to offer healing crystals for sale. Owner/esthetician Sera Cathelen started Sera Bella Spa six years ago. Sera Bella Crystals & Spa is now in the Jones421 Building at 421 N. Phillips Ave.

Fat Kid Pizza has opened in the food court at The Empire Mall. The restaurant from the owners of Fat Kid Filly’s also serves pasta and garlic bread sticks. Customers can get pizza by the slice or order a whole pie.

Chick-fil-A has opened a second location in Sioux Falls. The restaurant is in Morrison Commons on the campus of Augustana University. It’s open to the public. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

A local brewer on the craft beer scene has opened a taproom for his future brewery. For now, Altered Species Ales on the south side of the Western Mall offers craft beer from breweries in the city, state and region. Owner Mike Nussbaum is building an on-site brewery, which he estimates will open in spring or summer next year.  To start, hours for the taproom are 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Ken Leonard of the food truck Tacos de Gringo has started a second venture, Kenards Grille. It operates out of the kitchen at The Gaslight Lounge at 2206 W. 12th St., offering bar food with a “chef twist on everything.” Until food truck season wraps up, Kenards is operating on a week-by-week schedule.

Plum’s Cooking Co. has opened a shop for Le Creuset products within its downtown store. The locally owned retailer at 8th & Railroad Center is one of six independent gourmet kitchen stores nationwide to receive a Le Creuset shop. It features exclusive products, colors and promotions.

Fireplace Gallery has changed its name and expanded. Owner Mike Poppens renamed the business at 1312 W. 41st St.  as Fire & Stone Gallery and expanded into the shared space of the store that had been occupied by Garage Living. Fire & Stone Gallery now offers stone products and other items designed to complement entire fireplace installations and updates. Garage Living is at 3504 S. Minnesota Ave.
