A historic building that’s being restored at Ninth and Grange will house a full-service restaurant offering breakfast and lunch. Alex Halbach, who owns the building, is working with the owners of Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen and the general manager of Sioux Falls Food Co+op on the concept. It’s expected to open in spring 2023.

McDonald’s has opened its eighth location in Sioux Falls. The new restaurant is on Minnesota Avenue just north of 85th Street. Hours are 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Pinz in Dell Rapids has a new owner. Casey McCoy is operating the bowling alley and cafe, which also has an arcade and video lottery machines. McCoy, who attended culinary school in New York City, has revamped the menu.

Chef April Austin has opened her own kitchen for her custom cakes and other desserts and has expanded the business to include an event venue for smaller gatherings with full catering services. Chef April Cakes, Confections & Celebrations is at 3210 E. 10th St. The event venue can seat up to 50 guests.

The Mason Jar Boutique is tripling the size of its store as it moves spaces at The Bridges at 57th and adds a home decor and furniture boutique. Wild Rustic Home will join the women’s clothing boutique in the lower level of the building that includes Scooter’s Coffee. A grand opening and reopening celebration is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Miner Brewing Co. and Prairie Berry Winery Taproom at the Western Mall is closing. The final day will be Nov. 12. The Hill City winery expanded to Sioux Falls in 2014 and added a taproom for the brewery when it moved to the mall in 2018.

Umamai Cafe & Catering has opened at Signature Flight Support, a fixed-base operator at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. Chef Jess Blodgett serves breakfast and lunch from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. It’s open to the public.

Lloyd Cos. has entered into an agreement to acquire Engineered Truss Systems Inc. The business specializes in manufacturing roof and floor trusses and also offers laminated veneer lumber beams and headers. Lloyd plans to expand the business to include wall panels and other building components, and will construct a larger building for the manufacturer, moving operations to Brandon.

DQ Grill & Chill has opened in Brandon. The restaurant is next to Brandon Valley High School. Twin Cities-based Fourteen Foods, the Dairy Queen franchisee, plans to start construction for a Tea location this month and open in spring. It’s also planning to start building a location in spring at Lake Lorraine, which will replace the nearby DQ in a strip mall on West 26th Street.

A handful of new ghost kitchens have opened in Sioux Falls in recent months. Diners can order food from the restaurants through third-party delivery services. Bird Dawgs is a Buffalo Wild Wings concept that’s also available on the menu in the two Sioux Falls locations. IHOP offers Thrilled Cheese and Super Mega Dilla, with menu items available only through delivery. Red Robin serves as the ghost kitchen in a partnership with Donatos Pizza, which is an Ohio-based chain. The pizzas also are available in the restaurant in The Empire Mall.

A state-of-the-art planetarium is coming to the Washington Pavilion thanks to the organization’s largest single donation from an individual. The Dick and Kathy Sweetman family is gifting $2 million toward the project, which will rename the facility the Wells Fargo CineDome & Sweetman Planetarium. It’s scheduled to open next summer.
