Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Aldi will build its fourth location in Sioux Falls at 4201 W. 61st Circle N., which is at Career Avenue at 60th Street North. Construction is expected to begin immediately but a timeline for opening has not been released.

Storage Center will build its next three-story building filled with climate-controlled storage rental units on the south side of Sioux Falls. It will be along Cliff Avenue south of 77th Street. Dirt work as started, and construction is expected to take nine or 10 months.

Chislic might be the signature item of a food truck with the name Chizlickers, but the menu will grow to feature other South Dakota flavors. Owner Alex Koltze said he sources as many ingredients locally as possible and plans to incorporate his own produce later this year. It’s at the Falls Park Farmers Market every Saturday, along with booking events and doing occasional pop-ups.

A longtime dance is building a new location and expanding its offerings. BritZa Performing Arts Studio will be at 1500 E. 77th St. and will add classes in acting and singing. The new location will include a retail shop. The plan is to open for classes early next year.

Jacky’s Restaurant won’t reopen its East Eighth Street location, but another Hispanic restaurant will replace it. Jacky’s closed its original location at 702 E. Eighth St. earlier this year for remodeling.  T-Juanita Street Food and Cheladas will open this summer.

A new food truck featuring Thai dishes from owner Meg Brauer’s native home will have a regular schedule in Harrisburg and Tea with added appearances in Sioux Falls. Thai Dakota is starting with hours of 4 to 8 p.m. Thursdays at the Harrisburg Ace Hardware and Fridays at the Dollar Fresh in Tea. Wednesday’s regular spot might be lunch at the Dollar Fresh in Harrisburg, but that won’t start until June 8.

Starbucks will open a new location on the south side of Sioux Falls. The coffee shop will be part of a new retail center being built on the northeast corner of 69th Street and Cliff Avenue. It will include indoor and outdoor seating and a drive-thru. The coffee shop is expected to open early next year.

Twisted Sisters Sweetz has closed its downtown bakery but will continue to do limited custom orders. It opened in March 2020 at 317 S. Phillips Ave.

A longtime pastry chef is moving into her own storefront and expanding the business with her husband to include an event space with catering. Chef April Austin and her husband, Nick Rerick, are renovating space in a retail center at 3210 E. 10th St., east of Hy-Vee. She’ll continue to operate Cakes & Confections by Chef April, and they’ll tweak the name to incorporate the new event side. The space will seat an estimated 50 guests. They’re giving themselves a cushion for any construction delays and booking the first events in August.

Party Land is going out of business. After more than 20 years, the party supply store at 5231 W. 26th St. will launch its going-out-of-business sale Wednesday. All merchandise will be discounted, with some up to half off. Fixtures, equipment and store supplies also will be for sale. A final day hasn’t been announced, but it will be before the end of July.

Fit My Feet founder Nick Kolterman is the new owner of Runner’s Block in The Empire Mall. “It’s going to stay Runner’s Block,” Kolterman said. “It’s run speciality, which is why I’m targeting that niche market.”

A plant-based restaurant is coming to downtown Sioux Falls. ‘Brosia Bowl, which operates a food truck at the Falls Park Farmers Market, will be in the Jones421 Building on North Phillips Avenue. The restaurant will take over the former Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen space next week and hopes to open sometime in June. The current tenant, 605 Florista, which opened earlier this year, is moving in with nearby Sharing the Dream in Guatemala in the first-floor marketplace of the mixed-used building. While Green is still finalizing her menu and hours for the restaurant, she’s envisioning serving breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday.

Hair stylist Megan Hall, who has owned her own suite for a decade, is creating a luxury salon suites business. 2nd Avenue Salon Suites will be in the renovated Johnson Building at Second and 11th. The salon will have eight hair suites and six for other beauty services. It’s expected to open in September.

Father-and-son team Darin and Ryan Benning have started The Hangover Hut food truck. They serve lamb chislic, burgers, hot dogs, fries and chili cheese fries. Find them at festivals and pop-up lunches at businesses, or book them for a private event.
