Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Pizza Rev at 3901 W. 49th St. has been closed temporarily since Aug. 26 because of staffing issues. Franchise owner Todd Porter said he plans to reopen it but did not know when that might be.

Click Rain and Lemonly will have a common office next summer after their merger earlier this year. Click Rain has purchased the historic Sawtooth Building at Seventh Street and Nesmith Avenue, next door to the Furniture Mission. Both digital marketing agencies are located downtown.

A commercial development along a man-made lake that will incorporate a boardwalk-style feel is planned for the west side of Sioux Falls. The concept for Firehouse 42 on the northeast corner of 12th Street and Ellis Road is being brought forward by WS Construction Management. The hope is to start foundation work as soon as city approvals are done this fall, so the first tenants can move in by the end of next summer.

Chick-fil-A will open its first Sioux Falls restaurant Thursday. Hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The national chain built a standalone restaurant in the new Empire Place development on West 41st Street in front of The Empire Mall.

Brookings-based ‘Brosia Bowl has added a food truck that will operate frequently in the Sioux Falls area. Plant-based chef Darcy Green started her prepared-meal service two years ago. The food truck menu includes grain and salad bowls, and likely will be expanded to include sandwiches and wraps, and soups on cooler days.

The Blu on Lorraine is being designed as a six-story apartment building of about 125 units on the north side of the man-made lake at Lake Lorraine in west Sioux Falls. The project is being developed by Mailbox Money and will be built by Veldhouse Cos., which also is a partner in it. Lloyd Cos. will be the property manager. Apartments will range from 504-square-foot studios to a two-bedroom unit with a den at nearly 1,300 square feet. The plan is to break ground next month and open in the spring of 2023.

The owners of event venues Meadow Barn at Country Orchards and The Veranda by Meadow Barn have purchased the adjacent Country Apple Orchard near Harrisburg. Kate and Greg Jones plan to keep growing apples at the 30-year-old orchard.

The new Rouge Salon Suites allows stylists to begin by leasing their space and eventually owning it. Rouge offers additional services to help the small-business owners with marketing and connect them with professional services such as banking and accounting. There are 26 suites at Rouge, 3600 W. 43rd St., with some remaining available.

North Dakota-based Enclave Development is bringing nearly 300 more apartments to the east side of Sioux Falls. Millstone Commons, which will have three buildings of three stories, will be on the west side of Veterans Parkway south of 26th Street. That’s across the highway from the company’s first Sioux Falls development, Silverthorne Flats. The plan is to construct the Millstone Commons buildings all at once over 18 to 20 months.

Nautical Bowls is coming to Sioux Falls. The fast-casual restaurant features superfood bowls that are fruit-based and plant-based. It will be in one of the retail centers at Empire Place on West 41st Street. It’s expected to open in November.

Salas Salsas has dropped plans to open its first restaurant because the space it was planning to lease in the Jones421 Building won’t be available before winter. Marcela Salas and her mother, Patricia Burbine, will pursue their initial expansion plan of starting a food truck. The two have been selling their salsas and other Mexican take-an-bake meals at the Brandon Farmers Market since last year.

Central Dakota Perk has moved to Tea. The coffee hut with two drive-up windows at 306 E. First St. had been in Presho. It offers hot and cold lattes and blended lattes, smoothies and frappes, along with chai tea. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Zooks Coffee Bar has opened at 815 Gateway Lane in Tea. It features seating and a drive-thru. For food, Zooks makes cinnamon rolls and offers baked goods from Sassy Cakes of Pipestone, Minnesota. Once more equipment arrives, Kokenge will begin serving sandwiches and soup for lunch. Hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Scooter’s Coffee is coming to Tea on the northeast corner of Heritage Parkway and Gateway Lane. The franchise location will be a drive-up kiosk with a walk-up window for orders placed online. It might be open before the end of the year but it likely won’t be ready until next year.

A sports bar with a full liquor license will fill the former ‘O’ So Good Restaurant space in Garretson. The Combine will have 15 large TVs, and a party room that will seat 30 to 50 diners can be reserved. Owner Leroy Austin of Barretson also owns Vinnie’s Dang Fine Dine in Luverne, Minnesota.The Combine will be open for dinner on weekday evenings beginning at 4 p.m. and all day on the weekend, serving breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. It’s expected to open in mid-October.

The Encore Park mixed-use development is coming on more than 100 acres north of Holly Boulevard on the west edge of Brandon. It’s being developed by Hegg Construction and was longtime farmland for James and Ruth Ode. It’s expected to include apartments, along with retail and industrial-type uses.  The first residents could move in late next summer, assuming construction starts this year.

VanDeWalle Architects has moved into the first floor of the former Rehfeld’s Art & Framing location at 210 S. Phillips Ave. with a renovated office about eight months in the making. The architecture firm had been next door at 212 S. Phillips Ave. Rehfeld’s relocated last year to 431 N. Phillips Ave.

Sioux Falls-based Great Western Bank is merging with Montana-based First Interstate Bank. The combined company will be based in Billings and operate under the First Interstate name and brand. It will be one of the region’s largest financial institutions, with $32 billion in assets and more than 300 branches across 14 states. Pending regulatory and shareholder approvals, the transaction is expected to close during the first calendar quarter of 2022. The conversion of branches is expected to take place in the following quarter.

DGR Engineering is moving to the east side of Sioux Falls. The firm is planning to build a 16,000-square-foot office at Dawley Farm Village near Veterans Parkway and 26th Street. Construction will begin later this year, and the plan is to move in during the fall of 2022. The current office is near 57th and Southeastern.

The newest food truck in Sioux Falls strives to make the common hot dog uncommon. Bryan Krueger started The Sloppy Weiner with his wife, Shannon, after purchasing the former Watecha Bowl original truck. In addition to specialty hot dogs that are topped with sloppy joe meat, the truck serves seasoned crinkle-cut fries and loaded versions with nacho cheese and sloppy joe meat.

 Dakota News Now has added two more newscasts. They air at 9 a.m. Saturdays on KSFY-TV and 9 a.m. Sundays on KDLT-TV.

FatKid Saloon opens Friday in Salem. Cody Sauers and his wife, Amber, who started their business with the Fat Kid Filly’s food truck last year, recently bought The Brewery in downtown Salem. FatKid Saloon will be open daily, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hours will be 7 a.m. to midnight and possibly 2 a.m. on weekend nights, he said.

Food Mama’s final day was Sept. 17. The owners are moving the food truck business to Wisconsin unless they find a buyer.
