Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

A locally owned ice cream shop will be joining Starbucks and Capriotti’s in a new retail center near 69th and Louise. Tasia Guericke is starting Sweet Cheeks, which will feature a self-serve format of ice cream, frozen yogurt and toppings. Customers will pay based on the weight of their creations. Guericke is hoping for a Sweet Cheeks opening by mid-July or early August. The store will be open year-round.

Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe is adding a second location with an expansion to The Empire Mall. The cafe is leasing a space at the food court that most recently was Firehouse Subs. It’s expected to open this summer.

The owners of Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe have purchased Kaladi’s Bistro. The restaurant at 26th and Minnesota will keep the same name, menu and staff, said Adam Wieczorek, who owns the restaurants with his wife, Kayla.

Hi-Fi Hair has opened in downtown Sioux Falls. Owner Jeff Gimenez has 25 years’ experience cutting hair. Nail specialist Yanika Olsen also works out of the salon in the Nordic Hall at 218 W. 13th St.

A new business offers custom bouquets that customers create. The Bouquet Bar is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekends inside the Jane Rae Events at 301 S. Minnesota Ave.

After almost 75 years, Young & Richards Flowers is going out of business with the owners’ retirement. Cindy and Jerry Palleschi have owned the flower and gift shop at 222 S. Phillips Ave. since 2009. Young & Richards will stop selling flowers at the end of May. The sale of the gift shop merchandise could go until June 10, when the sale of the building is expected to close.

Harvester Kitchen by Bryan has opened in the Harvester building off East Sixth street just east of Phillips Avenue. Owner Bryan Moscatello most recently served as executive chef at The Oval Room in Washington, D.C. Reservations are available from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Sioux Falls Pedicabs will start offering rides in downtown Sioux Falls on May 29. Pedicab drivers will work as independent contractors and set their own rates. Typical rides will start at around $5 and may equate to about $1 per block or a flat rate. The service can be rented for private events throughout the city, owner Emmett Reistroffer said.

A popular cookie shop from Colorado is coming to downtown Sioux Falls. Mary’s Mountain Cookies has leased the final open space at The Cascade along North Phillips Avenue across from Falls Park West. Franchisees Dave and Becky McElroy hope to open the shop by early fall.

Residents in Tea are getting their only dedicated coffee shop this summer. Longtime resident Linda Kokenge is opening Zooks Coffee Bar in a new building south of the GrandStay Hotel & Suites. Zooks will use beans from Parable Coffee Co., which does its roasting in Tea. It will serve breakfast and lunch.

Gist Wine Shop has opened at 108 W. 11th St. “A lot of these are wines that have never been in the state,” owner Mel Guse said of the overall selection. Wine by the glass and packaged foods also are available. Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday and by appointment.

Curbside Delights has made its return to the food truck scene in an eye-catching trolley. Rich Stevenson, who has been in and out of the food truck business in Sioux Falls since 2015, found the converted 26-foot-long trolley in Kansas. He is booking public and private events.

Sanford Health Plan has acquired the Great Plains Brokerage unit from Marsh & McLennan Agency. Great Plains Brokerage has served as Sanford Health Plan’s external brokerage service for more than 20 years. “Bringing brokerage services directly into the Sanford Health Plan allows for a more contemporary model for the management of sales – to include broker, agent, and client relations – a model adopted by the majority of health plans today,” Sanford Health Plan said in a statement. With no loss of jobs, the employees are now part of Sanford Health Plan’s sales team.

Define Body & Mind in Sioux Falls has rebranded as Motiv Fitness, which is a network of eight independent, women-owned fitness studios. Classes, instructors and schedules remain the same. The studio at 6225 S. Western Ave. offers barre, cycle, jump, yoga and dance classes and a sixth method will be added this fall.
