Combining fitness, family is winning formula for GreatLIFE member

Amy Farr has been a GreatLIFE member from the start.

“I love the model,” she said. “It’s so different from any other gym. It doesn’t just specifically point to fitness but the health of the family overall.”

She uses her membership in ways that fit her lifestyle. She’ll hit the gym in Hartford, which is nearest to her home, and when she’s in Sioux Falls for work, she’ll fit in workouts downtown at EmBe or at Woodlake Athletic Club.

“I use it for fitness, but I also use it to spend quality time with families and friends,” she said.

“The GreatLIFE model makes it easier to spend quality time with your family. Kids are on cellphones, on games, they’re not necessarily outside, and your membership gets you out there. Plus, there’s awesome child care at the gyms for people who have younger kids.”

She has used her membership for family outings to Suburban Lanes for free bowling and to SkyZone Indoor Trampoline Park and the Great Plains Zoo for discounted admission.

But earlier this year, Farr decided to do more.

“I just need to be more healthy as I’m getting older, and I’m trying to start preparing for my next chapter in life healthwise,” she said.

So she joined the GreatFIT Challenge, a six-week program that gave her the accountability she needed.

“My trainer was amazing. He made it fun – exhausting and difficult, but you push through and get to your goals,” she said.

The program, which includes weekly workouts, nutrition plans, weigh-ins and email challenges, has left her more committed to her fitness.

“It’s definitely changed my mindset. My niece, who is 15, will text me and ask if we’re going to the gym today, and I’ll say yes.”

While the GreatFIT Challenge runs periodically, all new members can take advantage of GreatSTART, a free one-time assessment to kick-start your personal fitness program. It includes a Fit3D body scan, a state-of-the-art assessment tool that extracts more than 450 measurements on the body in less than one minute.

GreatSTART also includes a meeting with a personal trainer, nutrition advice and introduction to a basic machine workout.

“It gets you ready for that next step in being successful with your workout,” Farr said. “The GreatLIFE staff is amazing as well. Everyone you run into is nice and accommodating and helps with any questions you have.”
