Cataract surgery doesn’t have to be hard

“The whole experience was easy.”

That’s how Dick Rozum describes his recent cataract surgery. The Mitchell resident had cataracts for a year, maybe two. He isn’t sure exactly how long because the changes to his vision were so gradual.

Dick’s hometown optometrist first identified his cataracts and referred him to Vance Thompson Vision. Dick has been taking drops for glaucoma for several years, and knowing he also may need surgery for that one day, his optometrist told him Vance Thompson Vision was his best choice for the care he needs.

“Like everyone, I was nervous about the surgery, but the procedure was like nothing. I had zero pain; it couldn’t have been easier,” Dick said.

Dick was able to have one eye corrected one day and the other the next, a setup he really appreciated as it meant just one recovery.

“The worst part about the recovery was wearing goggles to bed for three nights — and even that was so easy!” he said.

Dick had worn glasses for 30 years and expected he would continue to for the rest of his life. However, his cataract surgery gave him the opportunity to correct his astigmatism and get LASIK-like results at the same time. He opted for a premium lens, and at his last checkup, he was seeing 20/15 — even better than 20/20 — without glasses.

“Dr. Berdahl and Dr. Ibach overdelivered! Colors are brighter and more vivid, and now I see like I did when I was a kid. I wouldn’t consider going anywhere else,” he said.
