Car crashes into downtown Minervas dining room

Everyone is safe after a car crashed into downtown Minervas around 11:30 a.m. and the restaurant can remain open, owners said.

The vehicle was coming east on 11th Street just before 11:30 a.m. when it went off the road and into the north side of the restaurant.

A few diners were in the dining room at the time, but no one – including the driver – was hurt.

“Firefighters are bracing the wall in that area – about a six-foot area,” said Tim Meagher, chief operating officer of Minervas owner Vanguard Hospitality.

“That will ensure when they pull the car out everything stays intact and they’re able to manage the bricks and debris.”

Fire crews told the restaurant it can continue to operate. For now guests will be seated on the other side of the building and outdoors.

“All the other areas are completely safe. The fire department told us we’re completely fine,” Meagher said. “There were a few booths and a table they said not to seat near but we closed the entire main dining room. It’s dusty and our construction crew will be taping off the area.”
