Buyer found for Stop Light Lounge property

Aug. 31, 2018

The city of Sioux Falls and the South Dakota Department of Transportation have purchased the Stop Light Lounge property.

The bar, which closed July 31, is on the southwest corner of the 10th Street and Interstate 229 interchange.

“The DOT and city bought the property jointly for future right-of-way and future redesign of that interchange,” said Reggie Kuipers, a principal at Bender Commercial Real Estate Services. Kuipers represented owners Butch and Wally Frerichs, who are brothers.

The sale price was $438,000, Kuipers said. The brothers are looking for a buyer for the bar’s liquor license.

There are no immediate plans for the redesign of the interchange, Kuipers said. The city also owns the property on the southeast corner of the interchange.

Transportation and planning officials completed a study of the entire I-229 corridor in recent years. A study group looked at the 10th Street area with goals of reducing traffic congestion, improving safety and identifying improvements to the interchange.
