Builder’s Millwork moves into larger location

Aug. 6, 2021

Builder’s Millwork & Window has moved into its larger home in the former Campbell Supply/Runnings store on East 10th Street.

The supplier of interior trim, windows, doors, cabinetry and counter tops for single-family and multifamily housing has combined its Sioux Falls showroom and Tea warehouse in the 53,000-square-foot building at 3101 W. 10th St. with the bonus of a much larger parking lot than the previous showroom at 2310 E. 10th St.

Founders Bob Haub and Mike Bruns closed that showroom Friday, marked the business’ 27th anniversary Sunday and opened in the new space Monday.

With the larger showroom, Builder’s Millwork, which does about 85 percent of its business with contractors and the rest with homeowners, is able to display more products.

Contractors and customers looking for interior doors can see about 360 choices.

“I should have anything you want to see,” Haub said. “It would be confusing for you to come in and start looking, but if you had some help, we can narrow it down so fast. We’ve got what you want; we just need to show it to you.”

A new feature is a magnetic wall that allows customers to see different pieces of millwork next to each other.

“This is something I dreamt up one night when I couldn’t sleep. It’s going to be all our casing that we stock and stuff that you can take these apart and play with them. You can put this piece of casing with this piece of base and move it around. Put this over here, and then you can see what this looks like with that,” Haub said, demonstrating the options.

With more showroom space, the business can display some of the bigger offerings in windows and patio doors.

“If you can put a header across it, we can fill it full of windows.”

There’s a display room with options for multifamily projects, and several areas with kitchen cabinetry for single-family homes.

The new location has offices for every salesperson and room for growth. It has a staff of about 50 and a half-dozen openings in all areas of the business, Haub said.

Another additional offering is a training center for continuing education for the staff and new product demonstrations for contractors.

In the back half of the building, the warehouse has receiving bays on the east side and shipping on the south side.

One large area is filled with windows and doors that builders have purchased in advance, trying to get ahead of supply chain issues, Haub said.

Some of the doors in the showroom aren’t hung yet because the business is facing the same supply chain issues and is waiting for hardware to arrive.

“The tracks that those doors are on, I ordered them in February and still don’t have them,” Haub said.

Other areas in the warehouse are stacked with millwork that the business buys in bulk and filled with shelves holding boxes of hardware such as doorknobs.

“People don’t think that’s a big deal, but we’ll sell close to $2 million worth of hardware this year,” he said.

Bargain hunters will be interested in another new offering, Haub said.

“When we get this done and organized, we will have an odd stock or bullpen, whatever you want to call it, where people will be able to come in here and buy stuff cheaper than normal.”

Haub said the larger location was needed.

“We’ve been growing ever since we started. … Most of our volume has always been right in Sioux Falls. It’s been just kind of fun to keep up with that. All indications from everything you see, and you’ve been hearing it too, is that it’s going to keep going.”

Hours for the showroom are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
